German Invasion of Poland
The Battle was fought in Poland. Poland and Germany were going against each other and the Axis Powers won. The importance of this event was that this is the first time that Germany started their tyrant through Europe. This was also a turning point because the Allied powers started noticing what Germany was doing so they had the Munich Conference. -
Operation Barbarossa
This battle was fought on the northern side of Russia. It was between Germany and Russia and Germany lost. In this battle, there was the largest invasion of force in all of warfare history. This also led to the Russians counter-striking Germany. -
Battle of Moscow
This battle occurred in Russia between Russia and Germany where Russia won. This has importance because this marked the end of Operation Barbarossa. Also, this started the Russian counter-offensive. -
Pearl Harbor
This was in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Japanese technically didn't accomplish what they wanted because they wanted to get the 6 aircraft carriers and they weren't able to do it. This marked a turning point in the war and America finally entered in it. -
Battle of Wake Islands
This was fought on the Wake Islands which was American territory which resulted in a Japanese victory. This began right as soon as the Pearl Harbor attack happened and ended with America surrendering. For the rest of the war the Japanese kept this island. -
Doolittle Raid
This was around the Tokyo area in Japan. No one won particularly but this did boost American morale. This was a bombing raid that was a retaliation for Pearl Harbor and America showed Japan they should not be messed with. -
Battle of the Coral Sea
This was around Australia and Japan won a tactical victory. This was the second time the Japanese were turned back without achieving its goal. The Americans morale was boosted again. -
Battle of Midway
This was fought at the midway atoll between Japan and America. America had won the battle. It was 6 months after Pearl Harbor and America was able to bring their naval up. A military historian named John Keegan called it "the most stunning and decisive blow in the history of naval warfare". -
Battle of Stalingrad
This Battle was fought in Stalingrad. It was between Germany and the Soviets in which the Allies won. This is an important battle because it was the first battle that Germany had lost on European soil. This also was a very big confrontation because prior to this, the USSR and Germany had signed the non-aggression pact. -
Marshall Island Campaign
This was in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands on the Pacific Ocean with a U.S. Victory. The only purpose of this was so that the U.S. could establish airfields and naval bases. America knew that they would need centers for planning for this war. -
Battle of Kursk
The Battle of Kursk was fought in Soviet Russia between Russia and Germany where Russia won. This was an important battle in history because in the first battle between the two, Russia lost. This was also their first summer battle in which they won. -
Battle of the Bulge
Battle of the Bulge was fought in Germany and the allied forces won. This has major importance for the United States because it was the bloodiest single battle fought by American troops in World War II and the third in all of American history. -
Battle of Okiwana
This was fought in Okiwana which was the Empire of Japan at the time. The Americans won this battle. In this battle this was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater. This was so that they could use Kadena Air Base to plan an invasion. -
Battle of Berlin
This last battle was fought in Germany where the Russians invaded Germany and the Russians won. This was very important because it was technically the last battle of World War II if you don't count America and Japan. This led to Hitler commiting suicide and Germany surrendering.
