Slaves arrived
the first slaves arrived in America in late August of 1619. They brought over 20/30 the first time. They landed in nowadays Hampton, Virginia. -
Northwest Ordinance
The Northwest Ordinance was the first group of states to outlaw slavery in the United States. The northwest ordinance consisted of a little part of Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. -

There was a newspaper that was published called The Liberator, This helped people worldwide find out about the abolishment of slavery. -
Civil war start
This was a war that was fought between the north and the south over slavery. the south still wanted slavery but the north wanted to get rid of slavery. -
Emancipation Proclamation got issued
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln. All persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free. This did not end slavery though it only slowed it down in some parts of the United States. -
Black Codes
Even after the amendment was passed some states made it a law that slaves were still able to be kept. They would punish slaves with outrageous crimes and then they could use them as slaves again. -
13th amendment passed by congress
On January 31, 1865, the 13th Amendment of the United States was passed by Congress, this made it one step closer to becoming an actual amendment. -
Civil war ended
The Civil War ended when Confederate General Robert. E. Lee surrendered his troops to Union General Ulysses. s grant. The war ended with the North winning and slavery getting abolished. -

13th Amendment got Radified
The 13th amendment was added to the constitution of the united states. that made it illegal to own slaves.
