    First Slaves Arrival
    The First captive slave arrived in Jamestown April of 1619. The slaves were held hostage by the Americans and sailed to Jamestown with around 20 African Americans on board. This marked the official beginning of slavery in the United States.

    The Civil War was fought between the North and the South of the United States. They fought over the issue of slavery the South were in favor of slavery and the North were Anti-Slavery. This Marked the start for the push to free slaves, and later pass the 13th Amendment.

    This was a proclamation made by Abraham Lincoln that all slaves should be freed. This was targeted at the confederate states and causing a uproar. This proclamation wasn't followed by many in the rebellious states and causing a need for the Civil War. It also allowed African Americans to join the Unions forces.

    The House passed the 13th amendment by a 119 to 56 vote that is 7 above the necessary needed.
  • End to the Civil War

    The Civil War ended with a Confederate surrendering to the Union. This made the nation one step closer to the 13th amendment just needing approval.

    This was the start of the era of bringing back the 11 states, and fixing the problems that arose before and during the Civil War in the United States. A main point of reconstruction was to take care of slavery making blacks free and making sure that this never happens again. This called for the South and North to come together and figure out what is best for our country and establish a better government.
  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    The Black Codes were introduced right after the Civil war by the southern states. The Codes would limit the blacks freedom and create a loop hole to bring cheap labor. A couple of these codes would make blacks have to be employed or would have charges if they weren't paid they would be forced to work for free. Public places were separate by race. So the black people were "free", but had many restrictions making it almost unnoticeable treating them almost like prisoners in a corrupt system.

    The 13th amendment was passed by the final state causing the end to Slavery, and involuntary work except for a punishment of crime in the United States.

    Jim Crow Laws
    The Jim Crow Laws were laws enforced to create segregation in the states. This meant that blacks had to have everything separate from the whites, taking away the blacks rights at that time. This was started after reconstruction and in the Civil Rights movement in the 1950s.
