Judiciary Act
The Judiciary Act of 1789 provided for the federal court system. Created Supreme Courtwith a chief of justice and 5 justices. Also set up 13 district courts. -
Bank of America
A national bank chartered by Alexander Hamilton. Was owned and funded by the federal government. This raised much controversy. -
French Revolution
Louis XVI unleased revolutionary forces through the creation of the Estates General. He was overthrown and killed. -
Whiskey Rebellion
A group of farmers in western Pennsylvania protested a federal excise tax on distilled whiskey that Congress had previously passed. This was eventually put down by the American Army. -
Battle of Fallen Timbers
American forces officially forced Indians out of the northwest territory. -
Jay's Treaty
Jay's Treaty becomes law in the U.S.. Establishes new relations between Britain and U.S.. Greatly favors Britain. -
Treaty of San Lorenzo is signed
Maintained goos relations with Spain. Allowed the opening of the Mississippi, the right to deposit goods in New Orleans without duties, the 31st parallel, and a promise to stay out of Indian affairs. -
Washington gives Farewell address
Washington publicly announces his withdrawl from office. He claims that foreign relations have become the most significant aspect for political officials to deal with. -
John Adams elected president
After Washington left office John Adams took the presidency over largely due to Washington's preference. -
Quasi War
French privateers began seizing American ships. -
Alien and Sedition Acts
This legistlatio authorized the use of federal courts and the powers of the presidency to silence the republicans. Included Alien Enemies Law, the Alien Law, and the Naturalization Law. -
U.S, Army formed
A provisional army is formed as relations with France worsen. Washington is selected to lead troops and he appointed Alexander Hamilton as his second. -
Kentucky Resolutions
Written by Jefferson and passed by Kentucky legistlation claiming that they retained full authority over all matters not specifically mentioned in the Constitution. -
Virginia Resolutions
Written by James Madison urging all states to protect the rights of American people. -
Convention of Mortefontaine is signed
Relations between France and the U.S. are calmed and return peaceful. This ends the Quasi-War. -
Jefferson becomes president
Thomas Jefferson is finally elected President by the House of Representatives after multiple complications. -
Twelfth Ammendment
Claimed that the electoral college cast seperate ballots for president and vice president.
