13 Reasons Why

  • 1 - Receiving the tapes

    Clay finds a box with cassettes on his door step when he comes home from school. He has no idea who delivered the box, and he is not aware of what the tapes are about to tell him.
  • 2 - Getting his stereo player

    To reveal the secret messages hidden in the tapes, Clay searches for his stereo player. He brings it in to the garage where he can listen in silence.
  • 3 - The beginning

    Out in the garage, he presses play on the first tape. What he is about to hear is breathtaking.
  • 4 - Her voice

    Hannah Baker's voice is floating from the speakers on the stereo. She committed suicide a few days ago and she is explaining that there are 13 reasons why she ended her life at such a young age. On each tape, one person is to blame for her tragic choice. After listening to the cassettes, you are supposed to send them to the next person on the list. Everyone that is included on the tapes got a map with places to visit while listening.
  • 5 - Cassette 1

    Side A: Tape number one is about Justin, the first boy Hannah met after moving to town. He was her first kiss as well. After the kiss, Justin told the whole school that they did more than make out, which gave Hannah the reputation as the school's biggest slut.
    Side B: Next out on the tapes is Alex, one of Hannah's former friends. Their friendship ended when he published a "Hot or Not" list where Hannah was listed "hottest ass at school". This did not make her slut-reputation disappear.
  • 6 - The walkman

    Clay remembers that his friend Tony has a walkman which makes him able to walk around whilst listening to the tapes. He runs over to Tony's and picks up the walkman in fear of family members walking into the garage .
  • 7 - Cassette 2

    Side A: The third tape is about Jessica, the girl who was listed as the opposite of Hannah on the "Hot or Not" list. Because of this, Jessica slapped Hannah in the hallway at school, and ended their friendship.
    Side B: Number four is Tyler, the yearbook's photographer. After feeling like someone was watching her through her bedroom-window, Hannah invited a girl from school, Courtney, to help her disclose weather someone was looking trough her window or not. The girls caught him in action.
  • 8 - Monet's

    According to the map Clay received a few days before Hannah perpetrated suicide, he is told that the diner "Monet´s" is the first stop. Therefor, he walks over to Monet's.
  • 9 - Cassette 3

    Side A: Next up on the list is Courtney, the girl who helped Hannah expose the truth about Tyler, known as the cutest girl in school. She hangs out with Hannah in order to make herself more popular. It did not take long before Hannah found out about this, and she became even more depressed and felt used.
    Side B: Person number six is Marcus, a boy from school, who tried to take advantage of Hannah as an aftereffect of her slut-reputation. He asked her on a date and touched her against her will.
  • 10 - Cassette 4

    Side A: Number seven is Zach, the boy who tried to comfort her after she was sexually harassed by Marcus. At school, their teacher made a system where each student has its own bag where they could drop pieces of paper with compliments to one another. She caught Zach while he was moving pieces of paper with compliments from her bag.
    Side B: Next out is Ryan, editor of the schools newspaper. He found one of Hannah's poems and published it to the newspaper. She was mocked as a result.
  • 11 - Tony

    While Clay is sitting at Monet's, Tony arrives. On the first tape, Hannah mentions that if the cassettes not are being passed on to the next person, another student at school will reveal them all so their fellow classmates can hear what the persons on the list did to her mental health. It turns out that Tony is this chosen one and he came over to see how Clay is dealing with this sick game of Hannah's.
  • 12 - Cassete 5

    Side A: Clay. Hannah apologizes for putting his name on the list. She says that he is the only person on the tapes that never actually hurt her. They were making out at a party, but Hannah pushed him away, traumatized by her previous treatment from boys.
    Side B: Person number ten to receive the mysterious tapes it Justin, again. At the same party where Clay and Hanna made out, Hannah witnessed Justin trying to rape Jessica.
  • 13 - The House of the party

    Next out on the map is the house where Hannah and Clay attended the same party.
  • 14 - Cassette 6

    Side A: Next up is Jenny. She offered Hannah a ride home from the party, and hit a stop sign while driving. Hannah tried to call the police to make them aware of the dangerous situations that might occur as a consequence of the missing sign. This made Jenny angry, and she kicked Hannah out. Later, a boy from school was killed in an car accident because of the missing sign. Neither of the girls spoke up.
    Side B: Person number twelve is Bryce who forced Hannah, in public, into having sex with him
  • 15 - The park

    The last place at the map is the park where Hannah first kissed Justin, and her life started to fall apart.
  • 16 - Cassete 7

    Side A: The last person to play a role in which Hannah Baker decided to commit suicide is Mr. Porter, the councilor at school. Hannah scheduled a meeting with him to tell how she felt. He told her to "move on" and this made her mind clear. The tape ends with the words "I'm sorry".
    Side B: It is only two words on this tape: "Thank you".
  • 17 - Overdose

    Hannah Baker ended her life by overdosing on pills.
  • 18 - Delivering

    After finishing up the tapes, Clay delivers them to the next person on the list. Since Justin already has received the tapes, Clay is supposed to mail them to Jenny.
  • 19 - School

    Next day at school, Hannah is all over Clay's mind. It is impossible not to think of her while he is walking in the hallway, seeing all the people who slowly killed her and sit behind her empty desk.
  • 20 - Skye

    At school, one of the girls in his class, Skye, acts with low confidence and a sorrowful facial expressions. To make sure no one are feeling as alone as Hannah, Clay reaches out and decides to take care of Skye with the intention that all people deserves to have a great life surrounded by people who treats you well.
