  • Reinhard Heydrich takes over the SS

    Following the invasion of Poland, Reinhard Heydrich, Himmler's second in command of the SS, was given control of the new Reich Main Security Office (RSHA) which combined the SS Security Service (SD), Secret State Police (Gestapo), Criminal Police (Kripo), and foreign intelligence service into an enormous centralized organization that would soon terrorize the entire continent of Europe.

    A few documents that were captured revealed Hitler's plans for the invasion of Scandinavia and a postponement of the invasion of France till Spring when the weather will be better.

    The United States, Great Britain, Australia, Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Nicaragua declare war on Japan.

    Turning point in the war occurs with a victory for the U.S. against Japan in the Battle of Midway as squadrons of U.S. torpedo planes and dive bombers from Enterprice, Hornet, and Yorktown attack and destroy four Japanese carriers, a cruiser, and damage another cruiser and two destroyers.

  • Request for Surrender

    Soviet generals send in the formal request for surrender of the German 6th Army at Stalingrad, a request which is formally rejected

  • Argentina Joins War

    Argentina declares war on Germany and Japan.

  • The first atomic bomb dropped on Japan

    It was the only two nuclear deployment of Nuclear Weapons to this dated. The US dropped two bombs, on in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
