    Germany Invades Poland
    When Hitler invaded Poland in September 1939, France and Britain declared war on Germany. After conquering Poland, Germany attacked France. France fell in June 1940, and soon the Nazis overran most of the rest of Europe and North Africa. Only Britain, led by Winston Churchill, was not defeated.

    Japan joined Italy and Germany's alliance to form the Axis Pact.The three nations agreed that for the next ten years they would "stand by and co-operate with one another in... their prime purpose to establish and maintain a new order of things... to promote the mutual prosperity and welfare of the peoples concerned."

    Jews have to wear The star of David
    Nazis declare that all Jews must wear yellow stars to identify themselves. Later the Nazis begin testing gas chambers.
  • Operation Barabossa

    Operation Barabossa
    Hitler planned to invade the Soviet Union and the ocdename for this plan was 'operation barabossa.' Germany soon attacked the Soviet Union with a surprise attack with blitzkrieg tactics. The Soviets were not prepared for this attack so when the Germans invaded they burnt down their ciites. Hitler then moved on and isolated the city of Leningrad. However the Soviets counterattacked and since the Germans were unprepared for winter the Soviets won.

    The mass murder of Jews in gas chambers at Auschwitz begins. In July, Nazis begin deportation of Jews from the Warsaw ghetto to concentration camps. By September, only 60,000 Jews remain in the ghetto.

    After the attack on Peal Harbor, The turning point in the war in the Pacific came in June, 1942 at the Battle of Midway. In a four day battle fought between aircraft based on giant aircraft carriers, the U.S. destroyed hundreds of Japanese planes and regained control of the Pacific.

    Allie forces come to France creating one of the bloodest battles of the war.

    Battle Of The Bulge
    Germany was being surrounded by the Allies advancing from the west and the Soviets from the east. Since Germany now faced a war on two fronts, Hitler thought he could counterattck the Allies by splitting up the Americana and British forces. German soldiers soon broke through weak American defenses along the Ardennes. However the Allies were able to push back the Germans and aquire victory.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The Americans wanted to attack the island of Iwo Jima because the U.S wanted to capture the airfields owned by Japan. The island was engulfed in war and on the first day there were 2,400 casualties.The Americans bombed the island beforehand, but the Japanese hid in foxholes and they used sniper tactics. This battle was very bloody and U.S lost 6,891 men while the Japanese lost 22,000. This was an Allied victory.
