The Rise of Hitler
During this time Adolf Hitler was appointed as the Chancellor of Germany. Through his actions of violence and legal means, Germany's (or his) government made the Nazi party the only political party that was legal in Germany. This is how he began to establish dictatorship. So, then Germany began the legal discrimination of jews. -
Hitler Becomes the Leader and Chancellor of Germany
German President Paul Von Hindenburg dies. Since the president died they decided not to hold new elections and just let Hitler assume the role of Fuhrer und Reichskanzler (meaning leader and chancellor) of Germany. Hiltler forced the German sailors and soldiers to swear their personal loyalty to him. -
Jews are Deprived of Rights
The jews of Germany are stripped of citizenship and civil rights. This is also when Italy invades Ethoipia and the United States still remained nuetral except for the embargo of Italy and Ethoipia. -
Germany and Italy form Alliences
Germany and Italy declare an Axis or allience with one another. -
Germany and Itailian Forces
Germany reoccupies Rhineland, in the violation of The Treaty of Versailles that had ended World War I. In the meantime Itailian forces capture the capitol of Ethoipia, Addis Ababa. -
Japan Invades China
Japan invades China, which becomes part of World War II. The Japanese killed hundreds or thousands of Chinese civilians and raped some 20,000 women and girls. -
Austria and Germany
Austria is pressured into the union with Germany. -
Pact of Steel
Germany signs the alliance treaty with Italy -
The USSR
Germany and the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, or Soviet Union) sign a non-aggression pact on August 23. -
Germany bombs Paris
Germany begins to bomb Paris. German troops enter Paris, divide France in two. -
Hitler's Plan for the Jews
Hitler makes government officials begin plans for the "Final Solution." The elimination of Jews from German-occupied Europe. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan bombs Pearl Harbor. The following day, the U.S and Britain declare war on Japan. Germany responds on December 11 with a declaration of war on the U.S. -
D-Day
D-Day was the landing of 160,000 Allied troops in Normandy, France. They attacked and bombed Normandy. The U.S and their allies were the ones who invaded Normandy, which held most of the German troops. The success of the invasion of Normandy was really the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. -
Atomic Bombs
The United States conducted two atomic bombs which were dropped on Japan. The bombs hit the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They dropped the bombs because they were avaiable and they were the quickest way to end WWII ,without invading Japan and risking the tremendous causalties that such actions might produce. They bombs were lethal and destroyed everything in their path. -
Japan Surrenders
The Japanese finally gives up and the Japanese representatives signed the official Instrument of Surrender, prepared by the War Department and approved by President Truman.
