  • Captain Cook arrived in Botany Bay

    Captain Cook was a well-known British explorer, cartographer and captain of his ship in the royal navy. Captain James Cook joined the Royal Navy in 1755. Captain Cook discovered lands known today as Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and some coastal areas of Europe.
  • American declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson between the dates of June 11 and June 28 1776. It is a document that states that everyone is equal and everyone has the same rights. The Declaration has three main parts which are the ‘Preamble’, the ‘Indictment’ and finally, the ‘Conclusion’.
  • The French revolution

    The French Revolution was the fall of the powerful classes in the hierarchy and was the start of democracy. The French Revolution was one of the bloodiest times in Europe and was caused by the people’s anger. The revolution went on for 10 years and finished in 1799.
  • Califonia Gold Rush

    The gold rush in California lasted from 1848 till 1855. Golden flakes were found by a man named James Marshall who was building a saw mill and discovered the flakes in a nearby river. People from all around the world like people from Mexico, China, Australia and Europe came to America to mine the gold. These people were called the ‘Forty-niners’.

    The Civil war of America was a fight between the southern and northern states of America. The southern states decided that they no longer wanted to be a part of the northern parts and so they made their own country. Abraham Lincoln was the president at the time of the Civil war and was determined to keep the country united.
  • Invention of the telephone

    The telephone was invented by a man named Alexander Graham Bell and was born on the 3rd of March, 1847. When Alexander turned 11 years old, his father gave him the name ‘Graham’ as a birthday present. In 1876, Alexander and his work partner Elisha Gray discovered how to send sounds telegraphically and a few days later, they got the telephone to work.
  • Invention of the electric light bulb

    Thomas Edison is known as one of the greatest inventors in history as he has over 1,000 patents. A patent is licence giving authority for a period of time that excludes people from making or selling an invention. Thomas Edison was not the inventor of the first electric light bulb, he created the first electric light bulb that could be used in a home.
  • Ned Kelly was hanged

    Ned Kelly was a bushranger that was known to some as the Robin Hood of Australia. However, some people think of Ned Kelly as a bad person. He was then hanged in 1880 for being charged for murder.
  • First powered flight

    Wilbur and Orville Wright are known as the Wright Brothers. They were interested in air travel and so they built a glider to understand the basic concept of air travel. The brothers developed a way to power a propeller and built their very own 4 cylinder petrol engine.
  • Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic

    Titanic was a massive ship that carried some of the wealthiest people in the world. Titanic was the largest ship to sail at its time and could carry more than 2,200 people. More than 1,500 passengers on the ship lost their lives when the ship hit an iceberg and sunk.
  • Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand

    When Ferdinand became the emperor, he was quickly disliked by the people because he told them that he would make dramatic changes. A Serbian terrorist group called the Black Hand wanted to assassinate Ferdinand. Ferdinand was on the way to the hospital when the Serbian group came up behind them and killed him and his wife.
  • WWI begins

    World War 1 began in 1914 when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by a Serbian terrorist group. The war was in Europe, Africa, China, America and the Middle East which resulted in the Germans retreating. The war then ended on the 11th of November 1918
