1898
Vitagraph is founded in New York. Birt Acres invents the first amateur format. Birtac, by splitting 35 mm film into two halves of 17.5 mm. Alfred John West gives Royal Command Performance to Queen Victoria of film from the cruise of HMS Crescent at Osborne House. -
Film
The first eleven years of motion pictures show the cinema moving from a novelty to an established large-scale entertainment industry. The films represent a movement from films consisting of one shot. They were completely made by one person with a few assistants, towards films several minutes long using a lot of pictures which were made large. -
Events in 1916
The release of A Daughter of the Gods, the first US production with a million dollar budget, with the first nude scene by a major star. Samuel Goldfish and Edgar Selwyn establish Goldwyn Pictures. They later became one of the most successful independent filmmakers. -
Silent Era
It wasnt until 1927 that all short films had no sound. This time period was called the Silent Era. Usaually he noise for the film were made by an orchestra. -
1945 in films
Paramount Pictures releases theatrical short cartoon titled The Friendly Ghost, featuring a ghost named Casper. Spellbound is releaseed. the 2nd lassie movie comes out.
