Thales Miletus and his discovery of Static Electricity (600 B.C.E)
Thales was a Greek mathematician that discovered static electricity, although he didn't know it at the time. His experiment consisted of a piece of silk and amber. Thales rubbed them together and discovered the amber attracted light objects. At the time Thales didn't know what was happening. Thales experiment allowed us to discover electricity. Thales experiment was one of the first known experiments with electricity. -
Benjamin Franklin and his Lightning Rod
In 1746, in Boston, Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin first stumbled on other scientists electrical experiments. Benjamin, soon rapidly changed his home into a little laboratory. Benjamin quickly thought of a way to protect people and structures from lightning. The experiment consisted of a kite with a metal key atttched to the string, Benjamin flew the kite on a stormy day and the key attracted electricity. This led to the discovery of how lightning is a form of electricity. -
Luigi Alyisio Galvani the Biologist
Luigi Alyisio Galvani was a unknown scientist, physician, medical doctor and physicist who lived and died in Bologna. Luigi discovered that the muscles of dead frogs when struck by a spark twitched and moved. This discovery was one of the first in the study of bioelectricity. Luigi's discovery let mankind discover that our muscles moved because of small electric charges. -
Count Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta
In 1796, the italian scientist, Count Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta, wondered if he could make electricity. Instead of using frog muscles, like in Luigi Galvani's experiment, Alessandro used different liquids. Allesandro placed liquids in bowls connected by metal. He observed that when he used saltwater in the bowls and connected the bowls with copper and zinc (metal), it produced a spark. Alessandro had just created a chemical cell soon to become the battery. -
Count Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta and the First Battery
Count Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta is most famous for his batttery the Voltaic pile a early battery in Italy. Volta created the battery 4 years after his experiment in 1796. His discovery led to his battery, the Voltaic pile. The battery main conponents were zinc and silver. Count Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Volta experiment led us to discovery allowed mankind to use electricity anywhere instead of being connected to an outlet. -
Hans Christian Ørsted
Hans Christian Ørsted, a Danish chemist and physician, discovered electric currents created magnetic fields. Hans discovery is a important part of electromagnetism. Hans experiment occured during a science presentaion for his friends and students. He was demonstrating how electric current heated a wire and had a conpass to demonstratemagnetism. Hans noticed that the compass needle moved when his electric current was on. Hans discovery led to the discovery of electromagnetism. -
Charles Babbage
Charles Babbage created the difference engine in 1822 although th first computer made electronically was invented by John Presper Eckert & John W. Mauchly. There computer was made in 1989. The computer allowed mankind to acess the internet, type and print things and much more. -
Fredrick Newton Gisborne
Fredrick Newton Gisborne was a expert electrician. He laid the first deep sea cable. It was laid between PEI (Prince Edward Island) and New Brunswick. The deep sea cable allowed communication (with the telegraph) overseas. It allowed sound to be converted to electricity then vice versa. -
Henry Woodward
Henry Woodward invented the light bulb. He invented it in Canada. Henry sold his invention to his patent Thomas Edison. The invention allowed us to discover that we can harness electricity and create light. -
Alexander Graham Bell continued.....
convert sound into electricity, and vice versa. (couldn't put where he created his invention at the front) He invented the telephone in Boston Massachusetts and some of his work in Brantford Ontario. -
Alexander Graham Bell And his Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell is mostly Famous for his invention of the telephone. In the summer of 1876, Alexander used a thin sheet of metal, a coil of wire wrapped around a magnet, and a battery to create a telephone. Alexander's device was able to convert sound into electricity, and then vice versa. This invention was a big step for mankind in electricity, it allowed mankind to speak to each other instantly rather then waiting for weeks for a letter. The discovery of the telephone allowed us to..... -
William L. Potts
William L. Potts, a Detroit police Officer, invented the traffic light because of the ever increasing numbr of cars. He invented the traffic light. He used red, amber and green. It allowed electricity to be automatically used. -
Sir. William Samuel Stephenson
Sir. William Samuel Stephenson was a Canadian soldier, airman, businessperson, inventor, spymaster, and the senior representative of British intelligence for the entire western hemisphere during World War II in his lifetime. William invented the first wireless photograph transmission system, which later became the television. He invented his invention in Manitoba. William's invention allowed humans to transmit photos to anyone around the world. William's invention later became known as the t.v. -
Edward Samuels Ted Rogers
Edward Samuels Ted Rogers was the C.E.O of Rogers. His invention was the first radio that could be plugged into a wall outlet. Edward Samuel Ted Rogers allowed us to brodcast to 1000's of people at a time. -
Donald Lewes Hings
Donald Lewes Hings invented the walkie talkie or portable transciever in 1942. Donald invented his walkie talkie in British Columbia. Donalds lifes work included a wide-range of antenna, radio technologies and geophysical exploration techniques using electromagnetic instrumentation that he developed. His walkie talkie was in essence a portable telephone that allowed 2 or more people to converse, however in a certain amount of distance. -
Vinton Cerf
The internet is a world wide network that can be used for chatting, playing, talking, posting, creating websites, and for information. The internet begun as a project in America sponsored by the United States Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). However, the world wide wed was invented by the english computerscientist Timothy Berners-Lee. It allowed people around the world to communicate, share and socialize with a click. It revolutionized mankind. -
Anita Luszszak
Anita Luszszak was 15 years old when she developed a pulsating generator. The generator used less energy to generate electric power then the conventional generators. Anita invented this in Alberta. Anita's generator allowed people to generate electrictricity and allowed people to use electricity in everyday life. -
Mike (don't know his full name) from the show I told u about
Mike is a kid inventor from Canada. When he was walking listening to his ipod it shut down it was out of power. He created the power walk. The power walk is a device that charges to double A batteries that charge while you walk. The device straps to your shoe and you just walk. The movement of your foot is converted into electricity. This device allows mankind to convert energy into elctricity. -
Deevesh (don't know his full name) from the televison show I told you about
Deevesh is a kid inventor in Canada. He added on to the hydrogen cell making it less expensive. Deevesh's hydrogen cell is uses a different metal in the hydrogen cell. Instead of using platinum he uses a different metal. Platinum is expensive sometimes even more then gold. The hydrogen cell allows mankind to generate electricity with out using fossil fuels.
