    Era of Good Feelings

    The Era of Good Feelings was one of the most defingin events of Monroe's tenure. After the end of the War of 1812 and the Napoleonic Wars, the American economy boomed and Americans could focus on improving their own country than on European politics. Monroe worked hard to sustain this era, like by trying to encourage the decline of political parties. Primary Source:

  • Policy: Missouri Compromise

    Many people were concerned when Missouri, a slave state, entered the United States because it would upset the balance between the number of slave states and free states. The Missouri Compromise decided that slavery would be illegal above the 36 degrees 30' parallel in the Louisiana Territory, excepting Missouri. This seemed like a fine solution at the time, but the line it drew would eventually divide the country into two warring sides during the Civil War.
