Continental navy
This is the beginning of our great Navy. Started in 1775 to slow down the Royal Navy attacking from Cananda. This is the USS Constitution oldest commissioned warship afloat.

Early Disarmament
Early congress wanted to disestablish the Navy. They wanted to get rid of the navy for the following reasons; change of goals from war to peace, more domestic and fewer foreign interests.

War of 1812
The U.S, Navy and the Royal Navy's battled in the war. It was started becuase the Royal NAvy would stop U.S. ships so they could check for british citizens. They really wanted to press U.S. sailors into the Royal Navy.

Opening of Naval Academy
The United States Naval Academy was created in Annapolis, Maryland for Naval officers to get same level of training as Army officers at West Point about Naval Warfare.

Civil war
During the civil war our Navy split up into two the U,S. Navy and the C.S. Navy. One of the battles was in Corpus Christi bay of Corpus Christi, Texas. The battle lasted 6 days and teh U.S , won a tactical victory.

During the Cold War President Reagon wanted the Naval fleet to have 600 ships. We never achieved that stoping at 588 in 1988. The cold war lead to the creation of the supercarrier.
