When Florence was 17 she wrote to herself on a private note "God spoke to me and called me his service." When she wrote this she meant that she thought that god was telling her to help the sick and unhealthy people in hospitals. This is when she decided she wanted to become a nurse. -

Helped with nursing for the Crimean War
