French and Indian war
The french and indian war was fought by France and England over the Ohio river vally. The British won but had a lot of debt after the war. The British told the colonists they would have to pay for the war by taxes. The colonists resisted. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act placed a tax on all paper. The colonists did not like this and said no taxation without representation. Colonists organized the Stamp Act with congress which sent a petition to the King and declared a boycott on British goods. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was not a tax. It was a law passed by the British Parliment stating that only East India Company, a British business could sell tea in the 13 colonies. The Boston Tea party caused the Intoterable Acts. -
The Intolerable Acts
Britain closed the Boston harbor and took away the right of the colony of Massachusetts to govern itself. Britain wanted the colonists to pay for dumping the tea into the harbor. The First Continental Congress established a boycott on British trade. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
American troops were forced to surrender when they ran out of gun powder. The British had many die in this battle. During the battle Americans hid behind rocks and trees for protection. That type of fighting is called gorilla warfare. -
Lexington and Concord War
The first shot of the Revoulution was fired here. Known as the shot heard around the world. The British went to Lexington to capture troulbe makers, and Concord to destroy military supplles. -
The Battle of Saratoga
This battle was the turning point of the war for the American patriots . American forces defeated the British soldiers in their attempt to split the colonies at the Husdon River. Because of the victory, the French were willing to enter an allaince with the Americans which brought both financial aid and help of the French navy. -
The Battle of Cowpens
An important battle in South Carolina that showed the cooperation of the regular continental army and it's helpers. The countrymen led the army and helped attack. They also led the British to believe the Americans were retreating. -
The Battle of Yorktown
The final battle of the war. The French Navy blockaded the British ships. The British couldn't escape. The Americans and French forced the British to surrender.
