Invention of Printing Press
The printing press was invented by a German inventor named Johannes Gutenberg in 1440. The printing press allowed documents to be easily copied, and kept information from being easily destroyed. The printing press allowed everyone to have access to books and information. -
Large use of Newspapers
England's London Gazette appeared in 1665, and is considered to be the first official, modern newspaper. Other ocuntries in Europe had also started publishing newspapers earlier in the century, but the London Gazette was the first official one. The newspaper helped spread news to the masses by being available to everyone, and publishing articles which spread awareness of previously uknown truths. -
Invention of the Camera
in 1827, joseph nicephore made the first photographic image with a camera. previous to this nnovation, pinhole cameras were used, the difference is that pinhole cameras take time to imprint the picture on paper, and the camera Joseph nicephore invented was instant. The invention of the camera allowed people to see with their own eyes what places were like, instead of having to hear about it from others. -
Invention of the Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone with the help of his assistant Thomas Watson, on March 10th 1876. THe telephone revolutionized communication, as it was the first two way system in which voices could talk to each other. this invention allowed people to talk casually without going out to meet each other; this meant that news spread faster, and the media had easier access to information. -
Invention of Television
in 1972, philo Farnsworth had an idea that an electron beam couldl scan images in horizontal lines. this idea eventually led to him inventing the first television. Television was the first artificial reproduction of moving pictures. The television allowed people to not only hear about news, or see pictures of it, but it allowed them to watch the whole thing through a camera lens. -
Invention of Computers
The first computer was build by Konrad Zuse, a German engineer; but at the same time, other countries were developing similar technologies, and many gained access to the computer around the same time. The first computers were very large, and not powerful enough to support many of the things computers do today. The modern computers we have today were devloped from these old computers, which makes it an important event for media. -
Inevntion of Social Networks
around the same time the internet was invented, the first social networks appeared. One of these was a Bulletin Board System (BBS) which allowed users to log on and share information and software. the modern equivalent of this social network allows news or events to be posted by anyone with access to a computer, allowing multiple sides to be presented to an issue. The media also takes advantage of social networks by monitoring them and looking for potential news sources. -
Invention of the Internet
in 1973, an american computer scientist invented a computer network which connected many smaller networks into a single global network, called the internet. The internet allowed anyone with a computer to access any information they wanted on the internet. This allowed people to search for information they wanted, reducing the need for newspapers and other such media forms. -
Invention of the iPod
Tony Fadell thought of the ipod in 2001, and was hired by apple to develop it. The original ipod did nothing more than play music and eventually movies, but as the ipod developed, so did its capacity. iPod's today allow access to the internet from anywhere, allowing users to recieve information and news no matter where they are. The iPod is also different form a laptop because it is small and extremely portable, makng it easy to carry around. -
Invention of Paper
Invented by Ts'ai Lun, an official in the Chinese imperial court. It is possible that paper was invented as much as 200 years earlier, and was only officially reported in 105. The paper was made from a suspesion of hemp waste, which was washed, soaked and beaten. Paper allowed events to be recorded, and accurate records kept.
