Britain defeats French
British troops, under General James Wolfe, attacked the French and their commander Marquis de Montcalm in Quebec, by surprise. The British won this battle. This led to their victory in the French and Indian War. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 banned all settlements west of the Appalachians. This ban created the Proclamation Line that colonists couldn't cross. Colonists continued to move west into the Native lands. The French and Indian War also ended in this year. -
George Grenville- The Sugar Act
George Grenville was a financial expert that King George III selected as prime minister. Merchants were angered by him because he suspected that the colonists were smuggling goods with other countries. The Sugar Act was established to prevent this from happening. The most important reason it was established was because it strengthened law enforcement allowing prosecutors to try smuggling cases in a vice-admirality court.
