Peace Treaty at Utrecht
Showed how badly France and Spain had been beaten by the British. Britain received French-popukated Acadia (Nova Scotia) and Newfoundland. The British also won limited trading rights in Spanish America, but these later causd friction with smuggling. -
The War of Jenkin's Ear
After the British captain, Jenkins encountered Spanish revenue authorities, a Spanish commander sliced one of his ears sliced off by a sword. A war broke out between the British and Spanish soon after and it was limited to the Caribbean sea and Georgia. This merged with the large-scale War of Austrian Succession. -
The War of Austrian Succession/King George's War
France allied itself with Spain yet again. New Englanders invaded New France (Canada). Peace treaty of 1748 handed Louisbourg back to the French and the New Englanders were outraged. -
George Washington in Ohio Country
The governor of Virginia called upon 21-year-old George Washington to secure the Viginian's claims. Washington was sent to Ohio Country as a lieutenant colonel in command of about 150 Virginia militiamen.They encountered a small group of French troops. The militiamen killed the French leader, causing his men to retreat. Washington moved on, but the French returned soon after and laid seige upon Washington's Fort Necessity. After 10 hours, Washington surrendered. -
The Seven Year's War/ French and Indian War
The Seven Year's War/French and Indian War was started by George Washington's advance in Ohio Country in 1754. It was also not fought only in America, but in Eurpoe, the West Indies, the Philippines, Africa, and on the ocean. This war was a seven-seas war. At this time, New York was trying to maintain unltimate power and control, so Benjamin Franklin published his most famous cartoon: the separated snake saying "Join or Die" meaning the colonies needed to join together to survive. -
The Battel of Quebec
William Pitt led an attack on the Quebec-Montreal area to gain power. He sent 32 year-old James Wolfe to command the group going to Quebec. He led a night group who fatally wounded the French commander, Marquis de Montcalm. James Wolfe was also fatally wounded, but the British still defeated the French and the city was surrendered. -
The Fall of The French in America/Peace Settlement at Paris
After the fall of Montreal in 1760, that was the last time the French flag fluttered in Canada. By the peace settlement at Paris, French power was thrown completely off the continent of North America leaving the Fremch in Canada.
