President Eisenhower signs the Civil Rights Act of 1957 into law which is the first Civil Rights Act passed since the reconstruction period. The Civil Rights Act of 1957 gave voting rights to African American. -

Sputnink, a small man made (and soviet made) satellite, was launched into space around the earth. The satellite had nothing more than a few antennas, a thermometer, and a radio transmitter that changed it's tone when the temperature changed. -
