President Bush addresses the UN to challenge Saddam to disarm and end torture. U.S. will act militarily against Irag without the U.N. if Suddam refuses. -
Congress Declares War
Congress authorizes President Bush to use military force against Iraq, a.k.a., War. The Senate vote was 77 to 23. -
UN Sends Inspection Agents
UN starts weapon inspections in Iraq. Saddam Hussein agrees with UN means as long as it is not an excuse for US military. -
"Shock and Awe" Campaign
A relentless bombing campaign begins in Irag. Coalition forces and the U.S. used a variety of weapons in their arsenal such as Tomahawk Missiles, B-52's, B-1B Bombers, F-117 and F-118 Stealth's and many other forces. These launchings were from carriers bases in the Gulf Region. -
Pfc. Jessica Lynch is Rescued
Pfc. Jessica Lynch was part of a force which was moving into Baghdad. She was captured by the Irag soldiers and was held prisoner. She was later rescued by the American Special Forces. -
"Mission Accomplished"
President Bush announces that the mission in Iraq has been completed saying, '" My fellow Americans" major combat operations in Iraq have completed."'
This quote was wrong and would later hurt Bush. -
Saddam's Sons Killed
Saddam Hussein's sons, Uday and Qusay, were killed in Mosul where they were hiding in a house. This came after weeks of intelligence by the American and Coalition Forces who were following Saddam's sons as they were moving throughout the country. -
Capturing of Saddam Hussein
After receiving intelligence after hostile questioning from family members and bodyguards soldiers were sent in to Adwar to capture or kill Saddam Hussein. This mission was called Operation Red Dawn. -
American Civilian Contractors Killed and Dragged
Four American Civilian Contractors from a company named "Blackwater", a private police force hired by the U.S., were captured, killed, and dragged through the streets in Fallujah. Their bodies were then hung over a bridge. -
Abu Ghraib Photos Released
Abu Ghraib Prison was where the Iraq insurgents were held after being captured. One of the American soldiers took pictures of how inhuman these prisoners were being treated. He turned these pictures over to his supervisors and after a period of time, these American soldiers were put on trial for their demeaning and excessive torture to the prisoners. -

Bush wins
President Bush wins the presidental election for a second term. -
Death of Saddam Hussein
In Baghdad, Iraq Saddam Hussein was put to death by way of hanging for crimes against humanity. He was escorted from U.S military prison cell and handed off to Iraqi officials. -
Irag Troops Surge Announced
President George Bush ordered an increase in troops for the Iraq war to increase security in Al Anbar Providence and Baghdad. It was ordered that 20,000 more troops be sent over and he extended 4,000 Marines%u2019 tour.
