Communist Cuba and Missile Crisis
In 1950 Fidel Castro organized an armed rebellion against the corrupt dictator who then ruled Cuba. 1959 Castro led his guerrilla army to victory and set about transforming the country, known as the Cuban Revolution. Warsaw Pact
this pact included the Soviet Union and seven satellites in Europe. Unlike NATO the warsaw pact was oftn invoked by the Soviets to keep its satellites in order. the pact more or less cemeneted the division into "eastern" and "western" blocs. -
Berlin wall
Germany was split into two differnt sections the west and east sides, Berlin also divided was smack in the middle of East Germany. The east side was controled by communist soviet union, this helped make East Berlin a ghost of its former self. East Berliners started to flee to the west side to escape the harships. The East commanders couldn't have this so they constructed a wall, the Berlin Wall, to contain the East Berliners. -
Vietnam Conflict
South Vietnamese commandos conducted raids on north veitnamese islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. Guerrillas, unpaid and nearly untrained soldiers, fought the americans when they came into South Korea. A theory came up during this time called the Domino theory, the view that a communist victory in South Vietnam would cause noncommunist governments across Southeast Asia to fall to communism , like a row of dominos. Ho Chi Minh remained determined to unite Vietnam under communist control. -

A long war began in Afghanistan. The Soviet-supported government had tried to modernize the nation. The Mujahedin, or muslim religious warriors, fought back against it.
