In east Germany they became communist so the people in this country flead to west Germany, The east gemans didnt like this so they put up baracades and wires but thay didnt work. So then the east thought to put up a huge wall so you could not get over to west Germany or even see it. But then that didnt work so they added wires and barb wire and elitric wire above this wall. over 50 people died in the first year this wall was built. -

Mikhail Gorbachev, came to power in the Soviet Unioin. With the ecomony in really bad shape and the war dragging on in Afghanistan, Gorbachev was eager to bring about reforms. These reforms where called glasnost, or openness. He ended censorship and encouraged people to discuss the countrys problems openly. And he also urged perestroika, or restructuring, of the government and economy. -
