  • German Invasion

    German Invasion
    On September 1,1939, Germany invaded Poland. The army in Poland, the Polish army, was defeated by the Germans within only a few weeks of the invasion. The German army surrounded Poland with more than 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes. Not only did they break through the Polish army on the boreder but the German army advanced on to attack Warsaw in another fatal attack. This is essentially what started WWII.

  • Blitzkreig in the West

    Blitzkreig in the West
    Blitzkrieg, or Lightning War, was just a new way of battling in war. On May 10,1940 the Germans invaded France. All battles previous to this were "phony" because they were boring; nothing really interesting about them. Blitzkrieg, however, changed everything and made it more interesting. Blitzkrieg was the tactic that the Germans used. It was the reason that they defeated the Allies in this invasion to France.

    The Germans invaded the USSR on May 15, 1941. They sought to take Moscow by October later that year. Many people thought Hitler and his army were crazy but as hard as it was for the Soviet Union to admit it, the Germans pulled the invasion off very well. By October 1941, three million Soviet Union soldiers were prisoners of war. This is essentially what brought Russia into WWII.

    The Soviet army frustrateed Hitler and his attack on Moscow. This is the largest city in Russia and one of the primary militaries. The German's Operation Typhoon failed because the Soviets were very prepared and were at the right place at the right time. This was a major disappointment to the Germans because The Battle of Moscow doomed the chances of the Germans winning the war.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base located on Pearl Harbor. The attack was held to make sure that the U.S. was behind on the action of what was going on in the war. This event essentially brought the United States into the war. Even though it took them a few monthes to rebuild some things, they still joined the war full force.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    The Battle of Midway was pretty similar to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Well at least the Japanese thought it would be. They were going to go and do the same thing; attack the U.S. demorilizing them. This did not succeed and that is why it was so crucial for the Allies winning the war! This was the end of the winning streak for Japan.
  • Alamein

    In the first Battle of Alamein, German General Erwin Rommel tried to attack those in position in the Afrika Corps. He failed to do so and that was that. This was the first victory for the UK. This also was the end of the hope that the Axis powers had to winning the war in the mid-east.

    Defeat at Stalingrad
    The Nazi army, or the German army, and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control over the city Stalingrad. This was one of the bloodiest battles of WWII which was majorly significant to winning the war. The Nazi army was never able to fully recover so they never went back to attack the East again.
  • Normandy Invasion

    The invasion in Normandy, France was part of Operation Overlord on the Axis' side. They had been planning on the attack for sometime. It was very planned out on the Allies' part. They prepared monthes and monthes before the actual attack. This day is also known as D-Day. This day was significant beccause it caused the Allies to open a second front.

    The building of the Atomic Bomb was known as the Manhatten Project. This was President Truman's plan to end WWII. It was a very risky plan because it was such a new technology few if not any had ever heard of. The plan was to attack Hiroshima, a Japanese city. And they did attack on August 6, 1945. This is what ultimately ended WWII.
