This battle was a struggle between Allied and German forces, to control the Atlantic Ocean. The Allies needed a wide flow of men, and supplies going from North America & Europe, while Germany wanted to cut down on supplies. -

It was an invasion on Western Europe. Heavy casualties occurred. In July two million Allied troops were in France, then on August twenty fifth Paris was liberated from German occupation. -
