Archduke Death
On June 28, 1914 Ferdinand Archduke was assassinated and so was his wife. They were assassinated by a Serbian Nationalist. A few moments before their car was bombed. The officer that was following them got killed. I see it as a distraction because while Ferdinand was focused on what was going on, it gave time for the killer to kill Archduke and his wife. -
WW1 Begins
WW1 HAS BEGUN! One of the main reasons started with Archduke and his wife getting assassinated. Archduke uncle was the Emperor of Austria and Hungary. With that being said he could have declared war. Another reason is while Germany was marching on to France they went through Belgium. Since Britain was neutral with Belgium, Britain declared war on Germany immediately. -
Flags of Allies
Rex Bixby was a huge fan of flags. He had flags from the countries that were allies with the United States. The Allies that were allies with the U.S were good for them says Rixby. -
Lusitania Sinks
On May 7, 1915, the British Ocean Liner, Lusitania Ship was torpedoed without a warning by a German Submarine. It was off the South Coast of Ireland. 1,198 people were drowned including 128 Americans. The ship was carrying about 170 tons of war munitions for Britain, which the Germans found out about. The United States protested against the actions and the Germans apologized and ended unrestricted submarine warfare. -
Love for Flags/Letter to his mom
Bixby had love for his flags. Every letter would write to his mom he would mention how he got a new flag. When he would write his mom, he would also send her a flag to let her know how much he loves her dearly. Rex and his mom would always keep in touch even if they talked to for 2 minutes or wrote letters. -
First Tanks
On September 15, 1916 the first tank was ready to go. The first war that used the tank was the Battle of Somme closet to Courcelette, France. It suffered mechanical malfunctions on the battlefield. In the battle of Cabral in November 1917, it was improved so much so much more successful. -
Submarines Back
On February 1, 1917 a huge threat from the Germany U-Boat submarine raises it's head again. The German Navy Commander was not prepared to accept that level of passivity. They continued to push for a more aggressive use of submarine. -
U.S Enters War
On May 18, 1917 the U.S Congress passed the selective Service Act. The President was now able to have the power to draft soldiers. Before, the law was passed President Woodrow Wilson pledged all of his Nations considerable material resources to help the Allies. -
Transferred to School of Aeronautics
In 1918, the same year Bixby was injured at the School of Aeronautics. The school he attended was a pilot training school. He joined the school before he got injured on a mission. Due to the scrapbook he created, he enjoyed the school and had buddies he attended there with. -
Injured in Crain
On September 15, 1918 Bixby, Rex was involved in an plane crash during training on a mission. One of the pilots he was flying with ended up dying. His leg had a large cut in it. "It was gushing out blood! I was scared." Bixby said. -
WW1 Ending
On November 11, 1918 war finally ended. The first World War 1 left nine million soldiers dead and 21 million injured. With Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, France, and Great Britain. All countries that was in war lost about a million lives or more. Millions were happy WW1 ended until WW2 started. -
Scrapbook
Bixby made a scrapbook to keep memories. The scrapbook contained pictures from the Army, important quotes, letters, and etc. Close to everyday of his life he added those things in his scrapbook to keep as memories or even a keepsake. What if he had children?
