The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
The Black Hand - An underground Serbian Organization who's goal was for a greater Serbia. Three trained hitmen were dispatched to attempt the assassination of the Archduke of Austria, Franz Ferdinand. Austria-Hungary, who annexed Serbia, stood against the "Black-Hands" goals. This caused the head of the Serbian CIA, who was also a Black-Hand member, to dispatch those 3, most notably Gavrilo Princip who was in just the right spot to shoot the Archduke when his car stopped a few meters away. -
World War One Begins
Following the Assassination of the Archduke of Austria, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Serbia did the same and this is when Alliances came into play. Serbia was allied with Russia so Russia declared war on Austria-Hungary. Which escalated the problem for Austria-Hungary who called upon their ally, Germany. Soon almost all of Europe is at war with 2 main factions. The Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire) and the Allies (Italy, France, Russia, and Britain). -

The Sinking of the Lusitania
The Lusitania was a British Liner which at completion, was the biggest ship in the world. It was considered a luxury ship but was known more for its speed, according to The Britannica (2019), "it won the Blue Riband for fastest Atlantic crossing, averaging nearly 24 knots." While carrying 1,959 Passengers and 173 tons of ammunition it was sunk by a U-Boat. This killed 1,198 Passengers including 128 U.S. citizens. The U.S. retained neutrality but used it as a reason for entering war later. -

The Zimmermann Note
The Zimmermann Note was a telegram that was to be sent to Mexico by Germany to join them and declare war with America. It was ultimately intercepted by British spies and sent to America and pushed them closer to war. This, along with the sinking of the Lusitania was the main reasons for America entering the war. It was one of the most important events as it changed the course of the war. It changed it by causing the US to enter the war, and it kept Mexico out. -

The United States Enters the War
After the events of the Lusitania and Zimmermann Note, America declared war on Germany. This ended up changing the course of History as when America entered the War the Allies started winning more and more. Recruitment throughout the U.S. is started and factories are pushed into overtime to make warships, guns, and ammo. America was one of the most productive states during the War. This lead ultimately to the Convoy system and Allied victory. -
Russia Drops out of World War One - The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Russia came under the control of a new Government. This new government promised peace to its people but Germany wouldn't except Russia's surrender without some land ceded to them. Russia refused temporarily but eventually ceded its holdings in Europe, including Poland. This impacted World War One because now Germany only had to fight a war on one front. This helped Germany las slightly longer. -
