League of Nations
Hitler, using the Treaty of Versailles as an explaination, withdraws Germany from the League of Nations. Despite knowing that the Treaty and the decision to withdraw had no connection, the world leaders did not challenge Hitler. -
Hitler and Mussolini
In the fall of 1936, Hitler allied with Italy. The agreement had a number of consequences. The most significant consequence was that Germany would support Mussolini in his invasion of Ethiopia. -
Hitler and Czechoslovakia
In 1938, about three million German-speakers lived in western Czechoslovakia. With help from the Nazis, many of those Germans began to support Hitler and demand for his rise in power. Hitler openly supported these demands. With the fear of war and chaos, the Czechs turned to their allies for help. -
Hypocrits?
On January 30, 1939, Hitler told the Reichstag that other nations were hypocritical in their complaints that Germany mistreated Jews. -
Hitler Declares War
On August 31, 1939, the Nazis took a group of prisoners from a concentration camp, dressed them in Polish army uniforms and slaughtered them. Hitler said it was a reltaliation against Poland for past attacks on German camps. Hitler declared war on Poland the next day. -
Poland Surrenders
After Poland surrenders, The Nazis incorporate western, parts of central and southern Poland into Germany and rename the territory "Warthegau". Hitler called the rest of Poland, "the General Government of Poland" and placed it under the rule of Hans Frank, one of his chief advisors. -
Nazi Expansion
In the spring of 1940, the Nazis began expanding West. They coquered Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. By June 22, Hitler controlled all of Western Europe, except Britain. -
Hitler versus Russia
Hitler ordered an invasion of Russia to destory the "Jewish-Bolshevik menace" once and for all. -
The United States Enters WWII
On December 11, Hitler declared war on the United States. By declaring war on the United States, Hitler unintentionally united Britain, the United States and Russia against Germany.
