Battle of the Netherlands

CAD: open up the supply route to the north through Arnhem & to clear the Northeasthern Netherlands, the coastal belt of G, east to the Elbe River & western Holland. CAD: push G (in the Northeast) back to the sea & G (West) back to G. Hongerwinter (Hunger winter): RCAF dropped food from the air onto German-occupied Dutch territory. After the surrender, CAD distributed food in Ranstad. This was the 1st time 2 Canadian army corps fought alongside each other (1st,2nd CAD Corps). -
Battle of Dunkirk

The Battle of Dunkirk: evacuation and defence of B and the Allied forces in Europe. Canada's role in the Battle of Dunkirk was one of defense of the British Isles. CAD captured Bourbourg and Furnes & tried to contain the garrison. Robert Timbrell, a Canadian, was personally responsible for the evacuation of 900 troops from the beaches of Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo. As CAD was part of the Allied forces, CAD was able to support its allies at Dunkirk. -
Battle of Britain

Hitler: control the air ->control B. 1st Canadian Division assumed a vital position -> only division that still had the bulk of its equipment since Dunkirk. CAD produced Hurricanes and trained pilots. CAD became part of the 7th British Army Corps and flew with the RAF. CAD operated Spitfires and Hurricanes, driving back the Luftwaffe. CAD fighter group 242 had a powerful role. #1 Fighter Squadron: first RCAF unit to engage enemy planes in battle (Shot 31,Damaged 43). -
Battle of Hong Kong

Hong Kong: east trading outpost of the British Empire, where Britain can also keep track of China's communist activity. Britain accepted CAD's help.The battle of Hong Kong proved that the English and French-speaking Canadians could co-exist. Canadians fought valiantly against the ruthless Japanese, but there were many casualties from battle and as a result of the brutal murdering of the wounded, the doctors, and the nurses (usually bayoneted). -
Battle of Dieppe

The battle was a preparation for the eventual event of D-Day. The Allies' goal was to establish a foothold in Europe to free the continent from Nazi agression and to gain insight to Germany's plans. The majority of the Dieppe Raid was accomplished by the Canadian 2nd Division. Only 2000 of 5000 Canadians returned; about 1000 were killed; and 2000 were taken prisoners of war. The battle was a disaster for Canadians. -

Most amphibious invasion in history and 1st full-scale combat operation by Canadian Divisions since WWI. CAD played a major role in the victory. CAD helped captured Sicily and Ortona. CAD took part in "mouse-holing". They broke the "Hitler line" defences (Southern Rome) and the "Gothic line" fortifications (north), pushing G back to Ortona. -
D-Day

~14000 of 150000 of the Allied troops were Canadians. The RCN supplied 110 ships & 10000 sailors. The RCAF bombed targets inland in preparation of the invasion. 15 RCAF fighter & fighter-bomber squadrons controlled the air and attacked enemy targets.

Like WWI, CAD was feared by G (omen of impending attack), relied upon to provide defence and to spearhead assaults for major battles. CAD fought fiercely to win every battle they were in and was referred to as expert & professional.
