Period: 3000 BCE to 100 BCE
Deities' War
After the Water God creates new forms of life, the Fire God considers this to be an abomination of their father's works, and vows to destroy all new creations. To accomplish this he is soon forced to create his own new lifeforms and servants, spiraling into a massive, cosmic conflict. -
Period: 3000 BCE to 2300 BCE
First Period
This early stage of the war was defined by overwhelming Fire God victories, seizing almost the entire outer shelf, and defeating the Water God's forces in almost every engagement. During this period, fighting in the Lower Valley Lands was taboo, which prevented the Water God's total defeat. -
Period: 2500 BCE to 2300 BCE
Battle of the Shrinking Shores
The conclusion of the first period of the war. So far, the Fire God had been sweeping up victory after victory, and had claimed virtually the entire continent. In response the Water God pulled his troops into defensive positions in the mountains, and then raised the ocean level to submerge everything outside the Lower Valley Lands. Then his troops stationed in the defensible mountains simply picked off whatever survivors swam out. It was a devastating blow to the Fire God. -
Period: 2300 BCE to 1600 BCE
Second Period
This stage of the war saw the favor of the war turn to the Water God. He was able to push the Fire God entirely back to the Fire Mountains, and even attempted a few invasions of those lands. The flooding of the outer shelf also forced all fighting to now happen in the Lower Valley Lands, ending the taboo of the First Period. Most notably, the advent of necromancy with the creation of Vorstheer made the Water God's armies far better matched against the Fire God. -
2295 BCE
Creation of the Eight Generals
Following his victory at the Shrinking Shores, the Water God created 8 powerful generals, giving each dominion one of the 8 schools of magic. With these powerful generals he began the second stage of the war, pushing the Fire God's forces all the way back to the Fire Mountains. This moment is also regarded as the moment the 8 schools of magic themselves were created. -

Period: 1700 BCE to 1600 BCE
Battle of the Eastern Shelf
With the ocean level dropping back to original levels gradually, portions of the outer shelves became open field again. After secretly conscripting his own sorcerers, the Fire God conjured a horde of fire elementals and launched an assault on the Eastern Shelf, driving the Water God's forces back to fortifications in the Fromish Rib. The water god created the Cedar Gulf in a flood to drown the elementals and save his armies. He succeeded, but the inititative of the war was back with the Fire God. -
Period: 1600 BCE to 700 BCE
Third Period
This period again saw the Fire God on the offensive, although not as overwhelmingly as the first period. He retook the Eastern Shelf and the northwestern region. Much of the conflict in this period was centered on the western and southern shelves as the Fire God slowly ground through the Water God's positions there. -
950 BCE
Arrival of the Eastlanders
The troops of the Water God that conquered the southern half of the Eastern Shelf settled in the region and would eventually develop into the Pine Kingdoms, these early predecessors were simply known as Eastlanders. -
Period: 950 BCE to 700 BCE
Second Battle of the Eastern Shelf
In a bid to regain the initiative of the war, the Water God made an offensive to retake the Eastern Shelf. After long, deadly fighting, he could not capture the northern half. In frustration, he transmuted a massive, mile thick sheet of ice which he dropped over the entire region, creating the Vorstholt, and crushing the Fire God's armies. Though not as decisive as hoped, this did move the war into its final, stalemate period. Vorstheer, Generla of Necromancy, was left to guard the Vorstholt. -
Period: 700 BCE to 100 BCE
Fourth Period
This final period of the war was also the bloodiest. A broad stalemate had settled over the conflict, and both sides began using more and more extreme tactics, with both gods creating more and more terrible creatures and weapons. Additionally, the two gods began personally fighting in various battles, each reaping massive death tolls. The capstone was the devastating Duel of Divine Wills, followed by the Earth God's bloody campaign to empty the Fire Mountains. -
698 BCE
Vorstheer's Duel
The Fire God went personally to destroy Vorstheer and the ice shelf. This was the first time one of the Ancient Gods directly fought in the war. Surprisingly, Vorstheer was able to hold off the Fire God alone until the Water God approached and the Fire God withdrew to avoid fighting his sibling directly. This duel created the Great Ice Rift, made Vorstheer known as the most powerful general, and signalled the final stage of the war where the old gods began personally fighting. -
Period: 500 BCE to 165 BCE
Duel of Divine Wills
Massive one-on-one duel of the Water and Fire Gods, the first and only time they fought each other personally. The fight was so destructive it permanently turned the planes between the Middling Forest and the Fire Mountains into a sterile wasteland. At the end of the duel, the Culture Goddess was accidentally slain, and both the Water and Fire Gods were killed. This triggered the final phase of the war, where the Most Ancient and the Forest God set out to clear the world of the remaining hordes. -
Period: 165 BCE to 100 BCE
Earth Campaign
After the Duel of the Divine Wills, the Forest God led an army of Genians, humans, and angels into the Fire Mountains to drive out and destroy the remaining hordes of the Fire God, thus ending the Deities' War and shattering the powerful kingdoms loyal to the Fire God's cult. -

Around this time, Reydhed is founded. -

Syldavean help never had the chance to arrive. The people of Tomsburg either flee, or are fed to the horde by Mazt. -
