When Stalin came into power he created a five year plan for his country to bring them from a farming state to an industrial one. The first step in this was to take control of the farms. Tōjō appointed as Army Minster in the second Fumimaro Konoe regime. He was selected for this position due to his strong opinions of militarization, which Prince Konoe hoped would help secure army backing his foreign policy.

Tōjō succeeds Fumimaro Konoe as Prime Minister
Prior to Tōjō taking Prime Minister, he had many disagreements with the current prime minister Fumimaro Konoe over the militarization of Japan. Konoe, a relative pacifist, completely opposed Tojo’s ideas of world wide war. Due to how relentlessly vocal Tōjo was about these subjects, Konoe stepped down leaving Tōjo to take the title of prime minister in October of 1941. -
Japan Declares War on America
On the morning of December 7, 1941, Japan sent a surprise military strike against an American Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. This attack led to over 2,000 American deaths and more than 1,000 injuries. This onslaught then caused the US entry into WW II and a declaration of war from Japan. -
