Development of Tourism Act
The development of Tourism Act was an act that established tourist boards for England, Scotland and Wales. The act allowed England, Scotland and Wales to promote itself and use public funds for the building of hotels or any other tourist attractions which would help to increase the tourism in the UK. This led to the creation of websites such as VisitBritain, VisitScotlant and VisitWales. -
Package Holidays
The first ever package holiday was organised in 1949 by Vladimir Raitz. He flew 32 people to Corsica. The price of the package holiday was £32.50. They became much more popular in 1970s. -
High speed trains.
The first high speed train network was made in France in the 70's. It was called the 'Train a Grand Viteese' Network. It was first make to link parts of France together but its now linked to other countries such as England and Germany. It had a huge impact as its one of the fastest trains in the world. -
The Transport Act
The Transport Act of 1980 ended licensing regulations for coaches and tours over 30 miles. This led to competition between public travel companies. It allowed any travel company to be able to go anywhere, instead of being limited. -
Deregulation of EU Air Travel
It began in 1987, before this a UK Airline was not allowed to have an airport base anywhere else in the EU and could only travel from the UK and back. This meant that EU airlines could establish themselves in any part of Europe. This gave airlines the chance to have bases all around the world. This led to the development of low-cost airlines. -
The Channel Tunnel.
The Channel Tunnel opened in 1994 and it had a huge effect on the Travel and Tourism sector because it was much easier to get to France from Britain. The channel decreased the market for ferries to France by around 50%. -
The First Super Plane.
The Airbus A380 was first used by Singapore Airlines on a trip to Sydney in 2007. It had a huge impact on the Travel and Tourism sector because it was one of the biggest planes in the world that could seat 800 passengers. Now superplanes are used all around the world. -
Self check-in at Airports.
Air New Zealand was the first airport to have self check-in where passengers checked theirselves in, in just 10 minutes before boarding their plane. It had an affect as it meant shorter queues and didn't have to wait as long to check-in. -
Super ships.
The first super ship ever made was called the 'Bateau a Grande Vitesse' (BGV) and first sailed in 2008. It turned journeys of 20 hours to under 9 hours. It had an affect on the travel and tourism sector because it meant quicker journeys.
