Roaring 20's
The Roaring 20's was a time throughout all of the 1920's when Americans had lots of social, artistic, and cultural enthusiasm. It was a time when jazz music blossomed and women redefined modern womanhood through flappers. -
Great Depression
The Great Depression started after the stock market crash in 1929 and continued through the 1930's. The economy was hurt drastically and many Americans lost jobs and had to struggle to make ends meet. -
New Deal
The New Deal was a series of programs designed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The programs were designed to help the unemployed and poor, recover the economy, and reform the financial system to prevent another depression. -
World War II
World War II began in 1939 and ended in 1945. It was fought between the allies and axis powers. The main allies were the Soviet Union, America, England, China, and France. The main axis powers were Germany, Japan, and Italy. -
Genocide
Genocides are the mass killings of a whole ethnic, racial, religious, or ethnic group. They have been occurring all throughout history and still occur today. The term "genocide" was first coined by a scholar in 1944. -
Cold War
The cold war started roughly in 1946 and ended in 1991. It was a war of political conflict, military tension, and economic competition against the Communist world. -
Red Scare
The Red Scare was a time when Americans feared the spread of communism throughout the world between 1947 and 1957. -
Korean War
The Korean War began on June 25th 1950 and continued through July 27th 1953. It was fought mainly between North and South Korea on the Korean penninsula. -
Civil Rights
The Civil Rights movement took place between 1955 and 1968 and was aimed at outlawing racial discrimination against African Americans and restoring equal rights between all races. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war began in 1955 and ended on April 30th, 1975. It was fought in Vietnam between North Vietnam with its communist allies and South Vietnam and the United States along with other anti-communist nations.
