    Mathilde and her husband gets invited to a very luxury party. Mathilde is very upset because she has nothing to wear. She then buys a big expensive dressand borrows a necklace.

    Mathilde has a fantastic time at the party, but unfortunately she loses the necklce. Mons went out to look for the necklace but couldn't find it.

    Mathilde's husband goes out to search the streetsfor the missing necklace but returns empty handed. They all found a matching necklace in the shops for 36,000 francs. It was tough getting this oney but they bought it and gave it back to Mathilde's friend.

    The next 10 years was a grind for Mathilde because she had to pay back the necklace. One day she decides to tell her the truth about the necklace. Mathilde explains that it is indirectly because of Jeanne since she lost the necklace she borrowed from her and had to pay for a replacement. Shocked, Jeanne confesses that the necklace Mathilde borrowed was a fake, made of paste, worth no more than five hundred francs.

    he lesson of the story is that honesty is the best policy. If Mathilde had been honest with her friend from the start, she would have learned that the necklace wasn't made of real diamonds and would not have wasted ten years paying for a replacement.
