    Alexander Graham Bell was a strong supporter of Maria Montessori and her methods of education and views on raising children. He and his wife, Mabel, sponsored one of the first Montessori schools in America, which was opened in their own home in Washington, D.C. in 1912. They served as president for the Montessori Educational Association, as well.
