The Beginning
The German invasion began in 1938 with the Annexation of Austria. It continued into 1939 when Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia were taken over. -
German Nonagression Pact
Germany signed a nonaggression pact with the Soviet Union that was intended to neutralize the chances of the USSR coming to Poland's aid. Poland was supposed to be divided between the enemies. -
Hitler Gives Orders
Hitler gave orders for the Invasion of Poland to begin on August 26th. The invasion was set to begin at dawn. -
Hitler Delays Attack
Hitler delayed the invasion after finding out that Britain had signed a new treaty with Poland which promised military assistance during an attack. -
Hitler Moves Forward with the Attack
Around noon, Hitler orders the invasion to move forward. He ordered it t begin at 4:45 am. Poland attempted to persuade Germany against the war. -
The Invasion
Nazi diplomats and propagandists head off. German airborne began bombardment of Polish targets. 50 German divisions flood into Poland to capture Warsaw, the capital of Poland. -
War is Declared
Britain declared war on Germany. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain arranged war cabinet. -
Poland Capital
German ground forces arrive at the Polish capital of Warsaw. The Germans had covered approximately 200 miles since the start of the invasion on the 1st. -
The Polish Flee
The Polish government flees to Romania. A government-in-exile is arranged. On this day the Polish city of Vilnius falls. -
Warsaw Falls
Warsaw unwillingly surrendered to the Nazi army. Warsaw officially falls followed by Modlin. -
Friendship Treaty
The German-Soviet Boundary Friendship Treaty is signed by Von Ribbenthrop (Germany) and Molotov (Soviet). Poland is divided into a western zone. -
The Last Fall
Approximately 4,500 soldiers north of Danzing on the Polwysep Helski under the command of Admiral Unruh fall to the Germans. This was the last valiant gap of the Polish resistance.
