    After worldwide release it was recieved very well by audiences and critics alike. Seeing their favourite nintendo icons fight against eachother was very fun and a sequel was quickly warranted.

    The sequel to the hit Nintendo game releases on the new Gamecube. Shortly after release it became the best-selling game on the GameCube with over 7 million copies sold. New Characters: Sheik, Princess Peach, Bowser, Ice climbers, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Falco, Mr. Game and Watch, Young Link, Pichu, Marth and Roy.

    After the release of Melee Smash Bros. quickly became a very competitive game. Even to this day, Melee is the second most played smash game in tournaments and overall because of its competitiveness.

    In 2005 at a press conference Masahiro Sakurai and Satoru Iwata announced that development on the third installment of the Super Smash Bros. franchise had begun.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl was released in Japan with 14 new characters and 12 new stages. The new characters were Diddy Kong, Wario, Toon Link, Zero Suit Samus, Pit, R.O.B., Meta Knight, King Dedede, Olimar, Wolf, Pokemon Trainer, Lucario, Ike, Lucas, Snake and Sonic.

    Super Smash Bros. Brawl was a huge success selling almost double the copies than Melee selling 13.32 million copies. It was also the best-selling game of the year in Canada and 4th best in the U.S.

    Only 1½ months after its release in Japan, Brawl would come out in North America and another 2½ months until it would come out in Europe and Australia.

    The 4th Smash Bros. game was announced in June 2011 but development only began in March of 2012. The game was officially revealed to the public in June 2013 during a Nintendo Direct.

    The 4th Smash game first came out on the 3DS in Japan then in North America, Europe, and Australia about a month later. It would first be released on the Wii U in North America in November of that year, then in Europe and Australia a week later, and then finally in Japan. Smash for the Wii U added 19 new fighters on release including Rosalina, Bowser Jr, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, Palutena, Dark Pit, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Shulk, Duck Hunt, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and the 3 Mii Fighters

    Throughout the next 3 years after its release Smash bros. for the Wii U would get frequent updates fixing bugs, balancing characters and adding dlcs. Most notably they added 7 new characters to smash. Them being Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corin and Bayonetta.

    Though not as well-received as its predecessor, the 4th installment of the Smash Bros. Franchise still sold 15.02 million copies worldwide (9.64 million on 3DS and 5.38 million on Wii U). It also still won many Game of the Year and Fighting Game of the Year awards from multiple articles and awards.

    Ultimate would also receive many updates like Brawl over the next 3 years after its release. Throughout it would add a whole 12 new characters more than the game itself added. The DLC characters added were Joker, Hero, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Piranha Plant, Min Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Kazuya and Sora
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Release

    The most recent and popular smash game to date was smash bros ultimate. It sold 34.22 million copies over twice the amount of smash bros for the 3DS and Wii U. It added 11 new characters and 4 new stages on release. The new characters were King K. Rool, Ridley, Dark Samus, Incineroar, Chrom, Isabelle, Inkling, Ken, Simon, and Richter.
