There were many groups pushing for nationalization modernization. One in paticular was the Kiumintang. The leader was Sun Yixian. In 1911, the Kuomintang, succeeded in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty. The Qing had ruled since 1644. -
World War I begins as Austria declares war on Serbia
In 1914 there were two rival alliances. First was the Triple Entente which included Great Britain, France, and Russia. The other alliance was the Triple Alliance which contained Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The reason the World War started was because since Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia other countries in their respected allinances supported their allies and declared war. -
U.S. enter WWI.
The first event that happened was the German sinking of the british ship Lusitania. This attack killed 128 U.S. citizens. The U.S. senta strong protest to Germany and after two further attacks, the Germans finallly agreed to stop attacking passenger ships. What really caused the U.S. to enter the war was when Germany asked Mexico to enter the war and attack the United States. After this on April 2, 1917, Woodrow Wilson declared war on Germany. -
Armistice signed. In 1918 an armistice was signed when the allies defeated the Central Powers in world war 1. An Armistice is basically a cease fire. We celebrate the end of WW1 with Armistice Day every year.

Mustafa Kemal transforms Turkey into a republic.
Mustafa Kemal successfully led Turkish nationalist in fighting back the Greeks and the British after they had threatened to create their own country. Kemal became president in 1923. -
Mao Zedong head Long March
In 1934 Mao Zedong headed the Long March. The march was a total of 6000 miles and the purpose of it was to flee from the nationalists who had surrounded the communists bases. Though Mao was thought to have lead the march he never actually walked with the communists. He flew by himself in a plane.
