The Red Scare
Those that supported Communism wanted to make sure that Americans knew that Communism was growing even in America. HUAC made those that believed in Communism state it, no matter the consequences. People in support of such beliefs were fired from jobs and sometimes prosecuted. By October 20, 1947, this pattern had spread to Hollywood and many writers and directors were terminated from their positions. -

SALT I
Nixon and Leonid Brezhnev sign the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. This agreement meant that both sides (American and Russia) promised not to create anymore nuclear weapons. -
End of Cold War
After the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 1960s and the crumbling of the Soviet Union, the Cold war ended.
