Law of April 6, 1830 was issued because of the Mier y Terán Report to counter concerns that Mexican Texas, part of the border state of Coahuila y Tejas was in danger of being annexed by the United States. Immigration of United States citizens, some legal, most illegal, had begun to accelerate rapidly. The law specifically banned any additional American colonists from settling in Mexican Territory. -

In June 1832, a group of Anglo-American settlers staged a rebellion against Mexican rule in the town of Anahuac, near Galveston. John Davis Bradburn, a Virginia-born soldier of fortune who had become a lieutenant commander in the Mexican army, had been appointed by Mexico to establish the town two years earlier in order to collect tariffs and duties, stop smuggling, and bring unruly Texans under Mexican law. -

The Battle of Velasco, fought June 25-26, 1832, was the first true military conflict between Mexico and Texians in the Texas Revolution.[1] It began when Texian Militia attacked Fort Velasco, located in what was then Velasco and what is now the city of Surfside Beach. The Mexican commander during the conflict, Domingo de Ugartechea, tried to stop the Texians, under John Austin, from transporting a cannon up the Brazos River to attack the city of Anahuac. -

San Antonio became the first major campaign of the Texas Revolution. From October until early December 1835 an army of Texan volunteers laid siege to a Mexican army in San Antonio de Béxar. After a Texas force drove off Mexican troops at Gonzales on October 2, the Texan army grew to 300 men and elected Stephen F. Austin commander to bring unity out of discord.
