Paul Revere's Ride
On April 7, 1775, Paul Revere was sent to warn the residents of Concord that the British were soon to arrive. Concord, being a site containing a large Patriot cache of weapons and other supplies, was a big target. The residents then began to move the supplies out of Concord, thus keeping it safe from the British. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the American revolution, fought between British soldiers, and colonists. This battle sparked the rebellion that caused the birth of a country. No one knows who fired the first shot to this day. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle is named after a hill in Charleston, Massachusetts. British soldiers were sent to occupy hills surrounding this city. 1,200 colonial troopers were sent to occupy Bunker hill, hence the namesake, and Breeds Hill, where most of the actual battle took place. -
The Declaration of Independence
This is the document that was signed that showed the British that we think we are our own country. It was decided unanimously and the bill was passed on July, 2, 1776 in Philadelphia and ratified two days later. -
Washington's Crossing of the Delaware
A significant battle in the revolutionary war in which George Washington led troops across the Delaware river late Chrismas day, and defeated the German mercenaries early the next morning in Trenton, New Jersey. -
The Battles of Saratoga
This is the battle that gave the colonial soldiers a decisive advantage over the British. The British general, General Burgoyne was surrounded and retreated into Saratoga, where he fought two battles, and ultimately surrendered his whole army to the Patriots. -
Valley Forge
After the British took the colonies' capital city, Philadelphia, and General George Washington failed to retake it, he led his 12,000 man army into Valley Forge, approximately 18 miles NW of Philadelphia. Living conditions were very harsh, and due to malnutrition and disease, approximately 1,700 to 2,000 of his soldiers died during their seven month encampment there. -
Siege of Yorktown
This was the last major land battle in the American Revolutionary War. It was fought by the British soldiers, against colonial soldiers and French allies.
