First Successful steam engine
Trevithick built the first ever steam locomotive to run on a track. The machine was able to run at five miles per hour while pulling five total cars behind it. This was beneficial because it allowed easy transportation of iron and other materials. Unfortunately this benefit didn't last long the engine had a weight disadvantage and within about three trips the rails broke. -

We still use steam motives today as easy and fast transportation. Of course steam locomotives are much more efficient and improved
