Americans were suprised by the news that Germany, Italy, and Japan had signed a mutual defense treaty. The "Tripartite Pact." The the nations soon became known as the "Axis Powers." -

Roosevelt ran for a third term, first time it had ever happened. -

Cogress passes the Lend-Lease Act. Congress is going to loan weapons to the Allies. -
Broke Agreement!
Hitler, Germany invades Soviet Union. Roosevelt also orders U.S. navy to protect leand lease shipments. -

Roosevelt and Churchhill draw up the Atlanta Charter.

"Shoot on sight Policy"
A german U-boat fired on the U.S. Destroyer Greer in the Atlantic. Roosevelt demanded to shoot any German Submarines on sight. -
War on Japan
The president recieved a decoded message that insructed Japan's peace envoy to disreguard all American peace proposals. Roosevelt then declared war. Attack on Pearl Harbor! Over 2,000 people died; Over a thousand people injured. Surpirse attack that lasted an hour and a half. Why? 1) Oil embargo. 2) Eastern dominance. December 7, 1941. "A date that will live in infamy." This officially brings the U.S into war.
