All German, Hungarian, and Austrian that lived in Canada was forced to make themselves known and were called “Enemy Aliens”even if they had been living in Canada before the war had started. They had started to have their voting and cultural rights taken away from them

Francis Pegahmagabow and First Nations Troops
Before the war had started, Natives were not considered Canadians even though they were there before the British. Post-war, they were given recognition for their triumph and contributions. Francis received medals of honour so it was a turn for the better

Leo Le Boutillier and French Soldiers
French Canadians felt discriminated against because all of the manuals and instructions were in English. Seen as they couldn’t understand it they felt excluded even though they were trying to aid our country as much as any other soldier.

Jeremiah Jones and other Black Canadians
Black soldiers proved themselves worthy on the battlefield but were shut out by fellow troops. Jeremiah however rose above that and saved his unit from an enemy machine-gun nest. His actions were deemed heroic and he was recognised with a Distinguished Conduct Medal.

This act enforced men from the ages of 20-45
To enlist into the war. It was mandatory unless there was a reason that was good enough for the Parliament.

Mae Belle Sampson and Nurses In The War
Women weren’t allowed to be soldiers but were eventually allowed to serve in the war as nurses. Women were finally given a shred of recognition and respect for their work under fire.
