The patient's grandma is very present in the patient's life and is supportive of the family. -
Dad's Birthday
The patient's dad is a warehouse operator who packs chemicals. He and the patient's mother met on Facebook through mutual friends and have been together for 4 years. They currently live together and plan on getting married sometime in the future. The dad's family has a history of asthma, arthritis, and diabetes. -
Mom's cousin's Birthday
The patient's mom's cousin came to visit the patient in the hospital. She is a CNA and is very involved in the family's life. -
Mom's Birthday
The patient's mom works as a personal caregiver and just started going to school full-time at Bryant & Stratton College, studying to get her associates degree as a medical assistant. She dropped out of high school but worked to get her diploma a couple years ago. Her family has a history of colon cancer, hypertension, strokes, diabetes, and asthma. Four of her relatives have implanted defibrillators related to cardiovascular health problems. -
Patient born
This is the patient's birthday! He was born without complication and has been a healthy kid with no problems until now. -
Patient started going to Daycare
The patient started going to daycare when he was about 5 months old. He still goes to the same daycare, Jordan's Early Childhood Center. -
Multiple Ear Infections
When the patient was around 6 months old he suffered from frequent ear infections. He no longer has a problem with ear infections. -
Patient returned to daycare for the school year
A week before the patient was admitted, he went back to daycare for the school year. Since the episode of ear infections has passed, he has only had an occasional cough or runny nose. Mom noticed that his neck was swollen less than a week after he started going to daycare this year. She also mentioned that his caregiver at the daycare expressed concern about his speech development. She has requested to speak to a speech therapist. -
Patient admitted to Children's Hospital
The patient was admitted to Children's hospital to be treated for lymphadenitis. A CT scan showed swelling on both sides of the neck and an infected abcess on the right side of the neck. He is receiving IV antibiotics in hopes that the problem will be resolved without surgical intervention. -
ENT Specialist Consult
The ENT specialist came in to assess the patient and recommended the patient stay another night in the hospital to continue taking antibiotics. The goal is to treat the infected abcess without surgical intervention, if possible.
