    The National Parent Teacher Association is an organization that assists in creating opportunities for children through the help of parents and families. This is a huge step as it gives families a chance to create a voice for them and their cultures. With this, several different individuals come together from different families and backgrounds to create the best education for their children.

    Bus transportation has become one of the biggest and most popular ways to transport children to school. It allows students who live outside of school or districts, or students who have parents unable to take them to school, go to school each day. This system has created diversity in the school districts because it brings students from several neighborhoods to one school.

    Little Rock is known for their Little Rock Nine, which was nine African Americans who were integrated in a previously all caucasian school. This event was one of the most popular that started the desegregation in schools. By desegregating schools, different cultures are being introduced and exposed to one another.

    The National Association of Bilingual Education is an organization that provides bilingual education with proper training, and helps secure funding. Creating a better system for bilingual education means there will be more students in the school districts with a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.

    Columbia College Admits Women
    Columbia College had been an all male university for the first 229 years it was open. Finally opening its doors to women was one of the first steps to giving women equal opportunities. Allowing women to go to school with men creates opportunities for more diversity and different learning styles and minds to work together.

    The Americans with Disabilities Act becomes law. This meant that it was no longer allowed to discriminate against individuals with disabilities in all areas including education. The ADA becoming law opened more does for individuals with education to have equal opportunity and a safe environment in schools.
  • Higher Education Act Revamped

    Higher Education Act Revamped
    In 2003, the Higher Education Act was amended again. This allowed more access to higher education for lower and middle income families. In addition, it provided more funding for graduate studies. Higher Education is an area of education that is not free tuition, meaning students of lower income families do not have a lot of access. With more funding available to these students, they will be more likely to attend.

    In 2014, Minnesota was the 33rd state to allow transgender athletes to compete as women. This event does not directly correlate to education but it means that school districts are becoming more familiar and more accepting to those who identify as transgender.

    On March 24th, 2018, several thousands of students participated in the March For Our Lives event. This organization takes pride in empowering young people to help stop the issues of gun violence. School shootings have become a increasingly common issue, and some believe that schools are not a safe place for all. In order to keep the schools systems a multicultural place, they need to be safe and welcoming.
