Genghis Kahn is born
Genghis Kahn, who was born Temujin, is thought to be born in 1262, He united the mongol people, and together they conquered other contries and tribes. Genghis was a leader to his people and although we do not know much about his childhood, we know he became important as an adult. -

Conquered all of Central Asia
By 1221 the Mongols led by Genghis Khan had conquered all of Central Asia. They fought defeated all their rivals for leadership one by one. The Mongols had the advantage of not triing to defend cities, they found weak spots, attacked, and moved on. -

Genghis Khan Dies
Genghis Khan means universal ruler. He gave himself this name after he had fought and defeated his rivals. After Genghis died in 1227, his son Ogadai took power. -

Kublai Khan takes Power
In 1260 Kublai Khan, Genghis Khan's grandson, took power in the Chinese part of tyhe divided Mongol empire. A different descendent of Genghis Khan ruled each of the 4 large parts. -

Yuan Dynasty Created
Kublai Khan established the Yuan dynasty. Kublai kept many aspects of Chinese rule. He founded the dynasty because the Chinese were familier with these steps and that made it easier for Kublai to control China. -

Marco Polo arrives in China
In 1275 Marco Polo travled the Silk Road to China. He stayed for 17 years and became the assitant to Kublai Khan. He traveled throughout China on governent missions, and he later published a book about his adventure. -
Jan 1, 1279
Kublai defeats the Song
In 1279 Kublai Khan's forces defeated the Song dynasty. Because the Song has controled southern China, the Mongols now controlled all of China. This also considered the Mongol Empire's last great military acheivment. -
Jan 1, 1294
Kublai dies
After ruling for 15 years, in 1294 Kublai died. He was the first ruler in 300 years to control all of China. The Mongols were also the first foreign power tp rule China.
