Lessons Learned from the 4th Quarter

  • Summer conditioning begins for Freshman Football

Summer conditioning begins for Freshman Football
As summer begins, freshman football conditioning starts up where I will meet up with middle school friends and will meet new friends that I will keep for the rest of my life.
  • First football camp starts

    First football camp starts
This is the first football camp I went to where I began to learn the sport and how to play. Now I'm beginning to see the challenges football will face me with where I must learn a new sport and work as a team to win.
  • First day of practice

    First day of practice
This day was a landmark in my high school journey since it was time to put my hard work over the summer to the test. I had learned a brief amount of how to play the sport and I was now more comfortable with my teammates and friends. This first week had a huge impact on my whole life perspective. On the first day of full pads later that week, I was hit and beat up so bad from the practice that I considered quitting right there, but I decided to give it another shot, got up, and continued.
  • First Football Game versus Estero at home.

First Football Game versus Estero at home.
Finally the team's hard work could be proven. My perseverance in this new and confusing world would finally be rewarded! We lost by a field goal in the last 8 seconds. I didn't know what to think. All my effort went to a failure. But the team and I kept our heads up and practiced even harder the next week. I learned to continue persevering.
  • First win of the season

    First win of the season
After 4 losses straight, the team beat Mariner and the team's morale skyrocketted. Failure after failure and 4 losses in a row, who wouldn't give up? I sure didn't and what happened was amazing, that feeling will never leave me. Hard work pays off, and I've kept this motto in my mind since football started.
  • Last game ends the season with a win

Last game ends the season with a win
For the last game, we played Cardinal Mooney, a huge school rival, and we won. After the first win, the team experienced defeat all over again... 3 more times. But just like last time, not giving up and working harder and harder each day brought us home a win on the last game, and that's how our season would be remembered.
  • Period: to

Summer Conditioning and First few weeks of practice

The second time around, I knew what I had to do to make myself better. I put in hard work every day to get bigger, faster, and stronger, and I succeeded. The team trained and trained and we were psyched to start off this next season.
  • First JV game

    First JV game
All the returning sophomores were put on the JV team. All 12 of us. 12 players on the whole team meant that almost every one of us would have to play the entire game non-stop. So we did, and our first game blew us away with the loss. But I took something very important out of that game: stick with your band of brothers, put in everything you've got for them, and never give up. So that's exactly what we did, and I've kept this mentality ever since.
  • Our biggest test yet

    Our biggest test yet
Early into the season, the 12 of us played Lemon Bay for one of the most memorable games of my high school career. This game took everything to play and we pushed ourselves much further than our limits. We fought and fought, but ended with a defeat by 2. Although the official score said we lost, inside, our JV team had won much more than imaginable. We became more than brothers and would do anything for each other. This game taught me perseverance and camaraderie that can never be taken away.
  • Last JV game of the season

Last JV game of the season
The first win we had... After non-stop playing every single game, it was almost impossible to come out with a win against teams with 2nd and 3rd strings. In our final game of the season, we put in everything we had and more, pushed ourselves past our limits, and came out with a huge win for the team. All along we never gave up or forgot our motivation: work hard for your brother, and I'm still using this motivation today.
  • Period: to

    Third summer around

This summer meant even more effort and training since we were now varsity players. It was filled with 6:30 AM workouts, evening 7on7 practices, and mulltiple camps. Same MO though all throughout: work hard, do it for your brothers, and never give up.
  • Season starts off with a win

Season starts off with a win
In the third year around, everything is beginning to seem routine. The hard work, effort, motivation, gains, and success, that is. After a successful summer, we came out ready to play and started the season off by winning our pre-season game at North Broward Prep. All along never giving up or backing down from a challenge.
  • Victory against an age-old rival

    Victory against an age-old rival
The season was progressing shakily after a couple tough games from Fort Myers and Lemon Bay, but more important than those opening games was one of Verot's long time and biggest rivals: Labelle. At their field, we brought out everything we had to win: we prepared ourselves all week and gave took the challenge, overcoming it by never giving up and putting in everything we had. By now, this was my foundation and my philosophy. These qualilties make me who I am today.
  • District Championsip Game

    District Championsip Game
Verot vs. Mooney. Another huge rivalry, and the team was ready. We put in everything we had, but all our effort led to defeat and district runner-up. However, the more important aspect of this game was that despite the adversity, we still kept our heads held high, brushed off the past, and moved forward. All the while keeping up hard work, motivation, and dedication. All the while not giving up. My personal maxims were now set in stone: don't give up, give it your all and never back down.
  • Season 3 comes to a close

Season 3 comes to a close
This season made huge progress internally for me. It helped me develop myself so that I not only could be a better football player, but a better son, brother, friend, and role model. I learned what made me ME: I don't give up, I perservere, I take challenges head on, I'm dedicated, and I give it my all and more in everything I do.
  • Period: to

    Last summer of football

This was the last time to make myself bettr for football and I took every opportunity I got. We had morning practices, evening practices, weekend camps, lifting, running, and more. Preparation meant gains, and gains meant success. Time to put it all to action. Now I had a solid foundation to build on and I could only get better and better from what I've already learned.
  • 3 for 3

    3 for 3
3 out of 3 games a victory, and this season is like nothing else. All the hard work, time, and effort have been put to the test constantly and have been victorious. This season can only move me forward and I can't wait to see what we can do. All in all, football has made me proud of who I am: hardworking, passionate, dedicated, and more. But this doesn't just apply to football. I use what I've learned on the field every day as a student, son, brother, friend, and peer. Hard work pays off.
