French and English Enlightenment
The French and English Enlightenment was a time period that focused a lot on new ideas and philosophy. It included many famous enlightenment thinkers such as John Locke, Baron de Montesquieu, and Jean Jacques Rousseau. During this time, the unalienable rights (rights that every man was born with and could not be taken away from them) were established. They consisted of life, liberty, and property. -
John Locke (Social Contract and Natural Rights)
John Locke's Social Contract and Natural Rights addressed the unalienable rights, life, liberty, and property. The unalienable rights were rights that every man was born with and could not be taken away from them. These ideas greatly impacted the Declaration of Independence and the future ideas of America, especially in government. These were the rights that the rebels fought for. -

George Washington was a very prominent figure in the United States history. He was the first president and a General in the American Revolution. He influenced the Declaration of Independence because he helped write it. -

Thomas Jefferson was a founding father for the United States and was the third presidents. He was very important during the American Revolution because he wrote the majority of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. He was active in congress and made many decisions regarding the war and the future of the United States. -
The Olive Branch Treaty
The Olive Branch Treaty was a treaty written by John Dickinson and approved by the Second Continental Congress. It was made to bring peace between Britain and the British colonies. It gave rights and representation to the colonists while still allowing the King to rule over them. -
Lexington & Concord
Lexington & Concord was the first battle that took place and sparked the American Revolution. There were 73 killed, 174 injured, and 53 missing after the battle. The attack was lead by the British but the Americans won. -
The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a group of people who took control during the American Revolution to give the colonists a government. They made a lot of the calls as far as the war and they helped manage the money and supplies for the war and the soldiers. -
Bunker Hill
Bunker Hill was battle that took place in Charleston Massachusetts. It was a big battle for the American Revolution because the American fighters had learned that the British were planning on fighting them and taking over the hills, so the Americans used their information to their advantage. The British still won the battle but they lost a lot of troops and supplies. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and was used as a declaration for the colonists to split from Britain and form their own government and country. They declared their independence by sending the Declaration of Independence to Britain. -

Trenton is the capitol of New Jersey, named after William Trenton and the location were General George Washington won his first battle against the British. -
Princeton
Princeton is a town in New Jersey. This battle is significant because the American colonists won it and that gave them control of New Jersey and caused the British to retreat back to New York. -
Saratoga
Saratoga is located in New York. The battle of Saratoga was significant because the American forces won and American General Gates beat the British General Burgoyne. This British defeat convinced France to sign the Treaty of Alliance with America. -

The treaties signed by France represent the alliance and trade America and France was very important because it allowed for France to back up the colonists in the war. France wanted revenge on Britain from the seven years war and America need backup and supplies, so the alliance was crucial and extremely beneficial to both parties. -
Valley Forge
The battle of Valley Forge was a battle that took place in Pennsylvania and was won by the American troops under General Washington. This was a significant battle because it gave hope to the troops since they had suffered many losses lately. It also added George Washington's leadership and qualifications to being a leader in America. -
Spain
Spain played a role in the American Revolutionary War by declaring war on Great Britain. Spain saw that Britain was preoccupied with its war so they decide to fight Britain. This way it was easier for them to overcome the world power that Britain possessed. This was advantageous for the Americans because it weakened Britain and made it easier for the rebels to win. -
Cowpens
The battle of Cowpens was located in South Carolina and was won by the Americans. This battle moved the British farther north and gave the rebels the confidence they needed to continue in the war. -
Yorktown
The battle and siege of Yorktown is considered the last battle of the American Revolution. When the rebels won the battle and took back Yorktown, it was the final push needed to get British forces out of America. Since the Americans won, the British were removed the the rebels had won their independence. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
The Treaty of Paris was a treaty between France and America during the American Revolution. France decided to become allies with America so they could avenge themselves from the French and Indian war and fight the British. The aid that France sent greatly helped the rebels and gave them the advantages they need to beat the British.
