    Harriet Beecher Stowe who was against slavery wrote a book. It was published 1852 was about how slavery was bad and she did not agree with slavery. Pushed towards the civil war.

    Pro slavery men raided the abolitionist. Brown wanted revenge so he brought his five sons with the idea that they were going to start a slave revolt and destroy the institution of slavery. One of brown's sons were killed during the fight. Brown went back to the east when he failed to fight the pro slavery men and started to raise money to carry out his vision of the slave uprising.

    After south Carolina seceded the state demanded that the fort to be turned over but the union officials refused. A supply ship tried to come over but the shore batteries fired and the ship have to turn back. The union could not let it fall into the confederates, though that had happened through the deep south federal installations and shut down.
