  • Introduction to books

I have always loved books. From the time I was a young child, until now, books have always been a major part of my life. I remember being so young that all I could do was look at the picture on the page while my mother read stories to me; usually Disney stories like The Little Mermaid or The Lion King. So my story begins on Deccember 8th, the day I was born.
  • Reading to my sister

I have an old photo my mother took of my sister, about 2, and me, about 5, sitting in a chair with books in our hands. Mind you, Sara's book is upside down, and neither of us could read, but books have always been an important part of our lives.
  • Reading Tutor

There was a point in my life, around 2nd grade, when I started to struggle with reading. My mom enlisted the help of a woman named Maddie to help me. One of the things I remeber most about my time with Maddie is reading a chapter book of the Berenstain Bears at a local park, Ranchwood Park, by my house.
  • Grounded and Harry Potter

Once I got to middle school, I spent some time being grounded. During this time, everything was removed from my room: toys, coloring books, etc. Everything except my books. I was not allowed to sleep all day to rush the days by, but my mother allowed me to read. She gave me the first feww Harry Potter books and I became hooked.
  • High School

When I got to high school, reading for fun kind of disapperaed from my life. Every once in a while I would pick up a young adult book. One of my favorites at this time was Anna Sewell's Black Beauty.
  • Vampires

Once I graduated from high school I started reading for fun again. I picked up the popular books at the time, one being The Twilgiht Saga. At first I couldn't get into it. I found Bella to be whiny and boring. On the 3rd time I picked up the series I told myself that I will at least finish the first book; and I did. And the second. And the third. I had to borrow the fourth one from a friend and stayed up all night until I finished it.
  • Adult Vampire Series

After Twilight, I graduated to an adult version. I told my mom that enjoyed the sci-fi aspecct of Twilight and she introduced me to J.R. Ward's, The Black Dagger Brotherhood. I currently own all eleven books in paperback and on mmy nook. I have re-read the series so many times, most of the books are falling apart. They are my go-to when I need to escape reality.
  • Present

These days I read whatever sounds interesting. I usually pick a book whose cover catches my eye. I love going to Barnes and Noble and scanning the $5 shelves. I have found some good books in there. I recently read the Icecream Girls by Dorothyy Koomson. It was the first book the I read out of my "comfort zone" of sci-fi novels (or re-reading the BDB for the umpteenth time). I am also taking a Young Adult Literature class this semester and the book list is very exciting.
